Shiatsu is Japanese for finger pressure. This powerful treatment involves applying pressure on the meridians (energetic channels that run through all body parts) and working on the musculoskeletal system. The treatments awaken the body’s potential to heal itself. Shiatsu works on a deep and superficial level. Deep work induces a meditative state that encourages relaxation and reduces the effects of long-term stress, whilst superficial focuses on stretching and relaxing muscles, freeing up joints and realigning the spine. Regular sessions make a real difference to quality of life as well as preserving wellbeing and enhancing daily performance.
Shiatsu is available as a 60 min treatment for individuals at our centre in Surrey or as part of a programme for organisations. For the latter, please contact us to discuss.
I’ve got to keep breathing. It’ll be my worst business mistake if I don’t” Steve Martin, Actor
Getting a team out of their present environment (home or office – either way, out from behind a screen) and into the forest. It’s suitable for any team, at any level, within an organisation. The session can be adapted according to level, outlook and challenges. That said, this session can also be run as a 1-1 for one specific person looking for clarity, a mind shift and a greater understanding of how to reconnect with themselves through breathwork.
Forest bathing is scientifically proven to improve health. Countless Japanese studies have revealed how it boosts immune systems, reduces stress hormones, enhances mental wellness and bolsters brain health. It can provide emotional healing, decrease blood pressure, improve general sleep-wake cycles, improve relationship skills, reduces stress and reduce aggression.
Conscious Connected Breathing on the other hand is a powerful and safe way to infuse the body with oxygen and energy, recharging our own (often depleted) systems to work to their healing capacity. It facilitates openings to higher levels of consciousness, allowing us to tap into our deeper resources and live our lives more joyfully with better functioning immune systems and a greater resilience to stress.
The combination of learning to connect more deeply to ourselves, as well as to the natural world is undeniably powerful.
Shinrin-yoku and Connected Breathwork can be used in a number of ways to enhance training and leadership skills. If you are organising an off-site board meeting or away day and there is access to a forest, we can come to that location and hold the session there. These can be used in so many ways, but a few examples include boosting customer and staff engagement in retail stores, as inspiration for the creative industries and by CEOs seeking a breathing space and by individual senior staff members as a powerful personal tool.
Justine, your guide, will facilitate a safe gentle walk, providing instructions — referred to as “invitations” — which are used as ways to open up the senses. We spend so much time using our vision that the other senses often get forgotten and are under utilised. Each walk begins with establishing embodied contact with where you are. Next comes a series of connective invitations, often improvised in the moment and adapted to the needs of the team. These will be followed by wander time with a specific focus and/or sit spot where you’ll then get to experience the power of your own breath. Breathwork is tested and proven by elite performers such as UFC fighters and Navy seals and is now being used by the likes of Google and BCG to enhance the emotional wellbeing and mental performance of their people. You’ll be given a scientific understanding of how your breathing effects you, and how incorporating it into a daily routine will bring immeasurable benefits and rewards. If you’d like to receive some of the many studies now done on the power of breathwork, please get in touch and we can send these to you.
The walk ends with tea made from foraged local plants.
Shinrin-yoku walks are not hikes in the traditional sense. The walk and breath session is typically four hours in duration and often covers no more than a quarter mile distance. In that relatively short distance and time most people experience contact with nature in a much deeper way than they ever have prior to the session. People have a wide range of experiences, some of which they feel are significant, even profound. As a guide, Justine is a CPD-certified Shinrin-yoku practitioner, awarded by the International Society of Nature and Forest Medicine (INFOM) trained in the skills and perspectives needed to be a supportive witness of these experiences. She is also a qualified Conscious Connected Breathwork practitioner.
Four hours is the ideal time you should allow for this experience and it’s ideally run for up to 8 people. It doesn’t matter if you are all from one team or spread amongst a few different departments. The session is based on you coming to Surrey, Kent or Sussex in the forests I work in there. But if you’re short on time, it’s also possible to run a shorter two-hour session. If you’d like us to travel to woods/forest near you, that’s also possible.
Duration and numbers
4 hours for up to 8 people. We can accommodate larger numbers in two groups with 2 facilitators.
Dates
Shinrin-yoku and Connected Breathwork is run on a bespoke basis for organisations, so please get in touch to discuss your needs and for more details.
Anything else to consider?
We suggest wearing comfortable non-restrictive clothing so that you’re relaxed throughout the session. Please check for any Breathwork contraindications here before booking and if you have any questions in relation to this please get in touch to discuss. If there are any concerns, then the safest way is for us to give that participant a different exercise to focus on whilst the breath session is taking place.
We were recently invited to experience two incredible nights at one of Africa’s newest and most ecologically-impressive game reserves. On arrival we found an incredible story of passion, perseverance, commitment and wonder and here we describe what we encountered and what you’re likely to if you decide to visit.
There is a sacred place in the heart of Zululand. A fertile land of undisturbed perfection, where no man has control and the rules of nature prevail. Once the Royal hunting ground of King Shaka of the Zulu, and the origin of every Southern White Rhino in the world; uMfolozi Big Five Game Reserve offers a personal gateway into nature as it was before us, which is how they intend to keep it.
Through perseverance, an unbelievable commitment to conservation and their determination to protect the land, they have added swathes of tribal land to the oldest game reserve in Africa. This allows more space for its prolific denizens to increase their numbers. What we love is that this means those who make it to uMfolozi become better acquainted with the authentic side of wildlife, and encounter all the denizens of a precious eco-system. Our hope is that you emerge awakened to the plight of Mother Nature.
There are two lodges in the reserve – Mthembu Lodge and Biyela Lodge. Both offer refined accommodation and amenities which have been built in harmony with the environment using local people to build, harnessing the power of the sun to heat, and employing people from the surrounding local villages to take care of their guests. This blend of subtle eco luxury allows you incredible surroundings whilst being immersed in an utterly safe, but also wild experience. Each lodge has a distinct style that pays homage to the Zulu nation through design and décor.
The teams at both lodges welcome you with a warm Zulu spirit and are personally invested in uMfolozi Big Five as the land belongs to them and their children’s children. The villa you sleep in was hand built by members of the surrounding community, and the fresh produce you delight in at meal times is harvested on our doorstep. Each part of your experience at uMfolozi Big Five Reserve invests in the world around you.
Abutting the Hluhluwe iMfolozi Park, uMfolozi Big Five Reserve is a wilderness area that has adjoined the wilderness area of the uMfolozi side of this great park which is the oldest in Africa and the second oldest in the world. Staying here allows you to experience something so unique that no money in the world could replicate it anywhere else. In the valleys where King Shaka of the Zulu once hunted; the origin of every Southern White Rhino in the world – you’ll get exclusive access to this sacred place where no man has control, and the rules of nature prevail. You’ll rekindle a personal relationship with nature while enjoying luxury lifestyle comforts, and excellent dining.
The reserve’s vehicles are the only ones that have a right to operate in this wilderness area, in addition to the right to traverse the greater Hluhluwe iMfolozi Park. Their staff include the best rangers and trackers because what you experience is a not just the result of luck, but of patience and skill. With no tell-tale accomplices, no markings or signage and limited vehicular pathways the guides rely only on their intimate knowledge of the bush and its allusive denizens.
Guests at both lodges will be able to traverse the wilderness area on open game vehicles, in small groups of no more than six people and under the careful guidance of experienced rangers and trackers, or on foot with armed guides. More than 90 kilometre of dirt-track is shared only by game rangers and lodge guests, and none of the general public visiting the upper Hluhluwe iMfolozi game areas will have self-drive access to this pristine wilderness area. The routes drop low and range high, and your ranger will spoil you with sundowners out on trail, as also with early morning tea or a picnic on your dawn-drives. By day, once the heat has hastened most animals into the shade, you’ll enjoy the tranquillity of the lodge and your surroundings.
You’ll be staying in the valleys where the very first steps were taken with Operation Rhino almost seventy years ago under revered global conservationist, the late Dr Ian Player.
Biyela Lodge nestles low on a spectacular bend on the White Imfolozi. On the other side of the river, the dramatic cliffs are used by vultures in the early morning to launch to the skies upon thermals. On the banks of the river, the scarce sighting of wild dog has been noted amidst the steady stream of animals who come to quench their thirst. Crocodiles and hippo rule the waters and the roar of lion punctuate the wilderness night. On the doorstep of nature at work, a small number of guests (32 at most) can enjoy their luxurious private stand-alone suites, with access to a central lodge with pool, restaurant, bar and viewing decks. To the right when on the viewing deck, another set of cliffs mark the entrance to the valley where one of King Shaka of the Zulu’s most rebellious commanders, Mzilikazi and his clan hid from the wrath of the King.
Mthembu Lodge, even more intimate with only 22 beds, has a different character, although equally luxurious. Situated somewhat higher off the river, it has a panoramic view of the waters and the forest for a big-picture kind of experience. That the spot chosen for this Lodge has something special about it should be evident from the fact that Dr Ian Player stabled his horses, used first on patrols and later on wilderness leadership training, in this area. Staying at Mthembu Lodge allows you to immerse yourself in a part of this special history – the story of how Dr Player started with what would become a global effort to save the rhino from extinction.
Staying at either lodge means you’ll be able to traverse the wilderness area on open game vehicles, in small groups of no more than six people and under the careful guidance of experienced rangers and trackers, or on foot with armed guides. More than 90 kilometre of dirt-track is shared only by game rangers and lodge guests, and none of the general public visiting the upper Hluhluwe iMfolozi game areas will have self-drive access to this pristine wilderness area.
Those taking care of you are committed to sharing their stories of their ancestors and the great spirits that reside in this area. You are sure to see the world in a different light after your visit, we know we did. It is the experience of a lifetime, walking in the footsteps of giants.
For participants who think resilience isn’t really a concern for them this topic will help develop a greater level of curiosity and self-awareness. They will begin wondering if they are as resilient as they once believed.
This workshop is available as part of a corporate subscription package. Contact us for details.
Our storyteller Preethi is a Harper Collins published author & has been described by the FT as “the storyteller who makes up the skills gap”.
Storytelling has the power to influence & change both individuals & organisations. It is an art form increasingly used to sell a concept, idea or set of values both internally & externally.
On this programme, which can be delivered in anything from a 2 hour to 1 day session with up to 50 people, we’ll explore the work of a storyteller & see how great stories are put together. You’ll learn about the tools they have at their disposable and then use these to put great stories together both in a group & individual context. You’ll come away with the skills of a storyteller along with a newfound creativity, a fresh innovative perspective and learn the power to influence through story.
This workshop can be taught across all levels from senior leaderships teams and down the line and can also be delivered as a live webinar by Zoom or similar platform.

Preethi provides a safe environment to explore storytelling at a much deeper level and discuss topics women may not necessarily feel comfortable doing in a mixed group (e.g. imposter syndrome, having to become someone else to fulfil potential).
Preethi teaches the front end of storytelling (how to tell a great story and present it well) but more profoundly, she understands the immense transformational power storytelling has; how by changing a narrative, you can unleash great personal power.

Tune Up. Quest. Share.
1. First, our street guide helps you and your group tune up your senses so you can pick up much more information from the urban environment that you would normally.
2. Then you’re off on a journey by yourself – your street quest – where you ask a question and see what answers present themselves.
3. Finally, you gather together again to share what happened and, more often than not, wonder at how magical an ordinary street can become when you’re really aware of those hidden messages, chance meetings and unexpected discoveries.

Street Wisdom is a wanderful experience you have to do out there – in the street, right? Actually no. With all that’s happening we wanted to help your teams focus on staying calm, grounded and inspired without leaving their homes. It’s time to bring Street Wisdom, home.
We have applied our WalkShop techniques to your home and garden (if you have one), so you can still find everyday inspiration. Every day.

You’ll also learn how to master the technique of rapidly recalling any of these states, so you can change how you deal with challenging situations. Heraclitus, the Greek philosopher, said that the only constant in life is change. And yet, sometimes change can seem daunting: we appreciate it is inevitable, even necessary, and that good things might come out of it, but while it happens, our life becomes suddenly difficult to navigate, and more stressful.
It does not need to be like that. We can learn to engage with change in a constructive way, and thrive. Human beings are hard-wired to be agile: we are the only animal species that adapted to live on every continent, and even in space. Taking lessons from adventurer, philosophers, and business people, in this intensely interactive workshop we find how to swim with change rather than against it, and reconnect with the deeper meaning of our work.
You will learn:
– How to stay calm in times of change
– How to stay focused
– How to spot opportunities
– How to face unexpected problems
– How to face fear of change
– How to find allies
– How to think long-term
Runs for anywhere from a 90 minute session to half, or even a full day. This can also be delivered as a live webinar by Zoom or similar platform.
Most of us are guilty of being harder on ourselves than we are on others. What our inner critic tells us about our progress and worth are things we would never say to a friend – and this can have devastating effects on our personal and professional development. We are living in an epidemic of self-criticism; nearly everyone suffers with it, no matter how successful and this is particularly so in the demanding environment of agency life.
To fulfil your potential within the agency and realise your self-worth, you will need to tackle your inner critic – but this can be a daunting task. So how do you shut off that negative voice?
Enter leading life coach Fiona Buckland, who has worked with organisations including the United Nations, Google and many more. She will show you how to break the vicious cycle of self-doubt and setbacks, providing you with skills and techniques that you can integrate into your everyday life.
You will come away feeling confident in your abilities to reduce the power of your inner critic, diminish negative self-talk, and with an increased connection to those inner resources that energise and inspire you into positive action – even in challenging times. You will also learn how to be more present, to notice your habits of negative thinking, and how to take action with courage and compassion so that you can be more positive, effective, resilient and successful in every aspect of your life.
This session is best run over 3 hours, but we can adjust the content to suit your timings. We thoroughly recommend going out of the agency to learn in a new environment and can arrange this, otherwise we’ll come to you.
Please contact us at [email protected] for pricing according to your agency’s requirements, and any more details you may require on this session.

Matthew first came to Shiatsu through his 30 years of martial arts training. Having suffered various injuries, he discovered its ability to alleviate pain and this became his directing force towards learning Shiatsu and the healing arts. His early Shiatsu training inspired him to study 24 form Yang Style Tai Chi with Lei Lei Chu and he later returned to study Tai Chi Chuan Qi-Gong, Hsing Yi and Kung Fu with master Peter Warr. Matthew has incredible understanding of the rhythm and density of the human body and his Shiatsu sessions squeeze, bend and stretch the body to expertly work out any blockages, aches and pains that are caused by injury, inactivity, stress or illness. His clients range an entire demographic, from high-profile city bankers to professional athletes, octogenarians to infants. He treats each with vision, energy and empathy. He helped with the delivery of his own son using Shiatsu, tai chi and yoga with special breathing and hypnosis. As well as being extremely well qualified, Matthew works very much on an intuitive level. He specialises in Shiatsu-do, a style of Japanese acu-pressure massage. He holds a Dip BSSD in Shiatsu as well as a Dip BRSRM in Remedial Massage. He is a member of the Shiatsu Society and also has a Cert Ed Teaching Qualification from London’s Metropolitan University. His specialisms are: • Recovery and mobilisation from stress and exertion • Acupressure massage (Shiatsu) • Mind-calming and deep relaxation.
