Risk-taking for Change Makers

With Kamala Katbamna

We work in a climate that’s volatile, uncertain and complex. It’s also full of exciting possibilities – if you’re willing to take a risk. By developing courage and exercising our risk-taking ‘muscles’, we can begin to adapt to a new way of thinking and working. And by taking even more risks, we’ll start innovating faster and creating positive change within our organisations.

This fun and fast-paced session will help you experiment, learn fast and move forward with greater courage and resilience. The workshop will use singing and conducting to create a practical experience of risk and innovation, of leading and being led through change.

Together, you’ll learn a song in simple harmony. You’ll then have the excitement and challenge of leading an experiment using this song, engaging with constructive critique and being part of a group trying to interpret and respond to change. It’s an exciting challenge.

This hands-on, interactive session will help you:

  • Explore your personal relationship with risk
  • Strengthen your courage to innovate and experiment faster and more frequently
  • Give and get fast, relevant feedback on your own and colleagues’ ideas
  • Offer challenge and dissent constructively and in the moment
  • Learn practical tools to improve your resilience and help you take risks more sustainably

The session will close with practical actions to help you apply your learning back in the workplace. There are no solos, and you don’t need any musical experience to participate fully!

Praise for previous sessions:

We’re creatives, so our job is all about taking risks and innovating. But that doesn’t mean we always find it easy! Kamala really helped me understand my personal response to risk, and be bolder about the ideas I put into practice. I’m now more confident about trying out ideas faster and with more of a game plan. And I back it up with the breathing exercises to stay calm! Definitely recommended.” Participant, Risk-taking for Change Makers

and another..

The risk session was fantastic, and really different to other sessions I’ve tried. Kamala really knows her stuff, and quickly had us challenging ourselves and doing things we wouldn’t have dared to a few minutes before! The idea of singing was a bit scary to begin with, but it was actually a great leveller. And it really helped us draw on that feeling of “what will people think of me, what if it goes wrong, what if I make a fool of myself” when you try a new idea at work. The directness and honesty of feedback within the group was amazing. Being able to experiment, develop what works and ditch what doesn’t quickly and confidently is such an important skill. I’ve been able to take this learning back to work and share it with my team.”  Participant, Risk-taking for Change Makers

SHIATSU

With Matthew Leavey

Shiatsu is Japanese for finger pressure. This powerful treatment involves applying pressure on the meridians (energetic channels that run through all body parts) and working on the musculoskeletal system. The treatments awaken the body’s potential to heal itself. Shiatsu works on a deep and superficial level. Deep work induces a meditative state that encourages relaxation and reduces the effects of long-term stress, whilst superficial focuses on stretching and relaxing muscles, freeing up joints and realigning the spine. Regular sessions make a real difference to quality of life as well as preserving wellbeing and enhancing daily performance.

Shiatsu is available as a 60 min treatment for individuals at our centre in Surrey or as part of a programme for organisations. For the latter, please contact us to discuss.

Street Wisdom For Businss

With Justine Clement

“Whether for personal exploration or to encourage creativity in business, Street Wisdom is an incredible tool and important movement”
David D’Souza: Head of Engagement, CIPD

If you’ve not heard of this yet – where have you been?!  When you’re looking to create something new, fresh and memorable for your people, you don’t need to look as far as you think. There’s inspiration right outside your office. If you know how to find it. We’ll create a bespoke experience for your organisation.

What’s it about?

Street Wisdom is a powerful, innovative tool that helps reboot thinking, set new directions and unlock ideas. An immersive walking workshop that teaches individuals to use city streets to find fresh answers to the questions on their mind. Street Wisdom is already a global social enterprise popular in over 30 countries with powerful applications to help your business.  You’ll be joining other forward-thinking organisations such as Ogilvy, FT, Google & Samsung who have already tried it and loved it.

A growing number of businesses are waking up to Street Wisdom as a fresh new way to:

  • Crack problems
  • Inspire people
  • Unleash Creativity
  • Develop collaboration
  • Boost well-being
  • Connect with the community
  • Enhance personal development
What is it?

Street Wisdom is a global social enterprise with a mission to bring inspiration to every street on earth. It’s a technology that allows you to get unusual inspiration from your everyday surroundings. As fully trained-up Street Wizards, we’ll give you the skills to access the ‘invisible university’ that’s all around you on the streets and help you as individuals, or teams, to find fresh answers to personal or work-related questions – with profound results.

Why the streets?

Because they are many and varied. They are free to use. They are where we spend an increasing amount of our metropolitan lives. And they are a rich source of untapped wisdom. It turns out, you don’t need an exotic getaway to find inspiration, it’s right outside your door. And you won’t burn a tonne of fossil fuel getting there.

How can you experience it?

Street Wisdom is a generally run as a three-hour workshop, although our team will create a bespoke experience for your organisation. Plenty of individuals use Street Wisdom to solve their business problems, now, entire businesses can do the same.

It’s an innovative and sustainable way to:

  • Inspire your people and give them a way to inspire themselves
  • Find new ways around problems
  • Collectively set a new direction
  • Improve wellbeing
  • Connect you better with your community and customers
How does it work?

It’s very simple – that’s because the process has been refined for years.

Tune Up. Quest. Share.

1. First, our street guide helps you and your group tune up your senses so you can pick up much more information from the urban environment that you would normally.
2. Then you’re off on a journey by yourself – your street quest – where you ask a question and see what answers present themselves.
3. Finally, you gather together again to share what happened and, more often than not, wonder at how magical an ordinary street can become when you’re really aware of those hidden messages, chance meetings and unexpected discoveries.

Who came up with the idea?

Founder David Pearl is an internationally renowned speaker who specialises in igniting creativity and changing working cultures. With expert facilitators based around the UK, we can work at scale. Our toolkit and bespoke training sessions give in-house facilitators the ability to roll out Street Wisdom within an entire workplace – inspiring whole companies to use the streets as a source of new ideas.

What about the results?

In just three hours of walking and wandering, participants have resolved problems that have dogged them for years, found new business ideas, discovered new directions, and learned how to deal differently with living, learning and loving.

Street Wisdom by The Life Adventure can be run as a group experience booked by an individual on behalf of a group of friends, or for a team within an organisation who may be looking for answers to problems, or to innovate.  Ideally, you’ll need a minimum of 10 people, but get in touch here or tweet us to discuss.

It’s such a fascinating experience so if you’d like some further reading on it see this review on Street Wisdom by The Times.

The Art Of Having No Idea

With Laurence Shorter
One of our marvellous presenters, Laurence Shorter, author of The Lazy Guru’s Guide to Life, offers a thought-provoking and unique exploration on how to enhance team and individual performance in a world in flux.

The answer is right in front of us

We’re pretending we know what we’re doing…

When actually we have no idea.

We’re trying to achieve something that’s unclear.

So we ignore our feelings in order to do things…even when they don’t feel quite right, which is very inefficient!

It doesn’t have to be this way. Laurence shorter, leadership coach & comedian – author of ‘the optimist’ & ‘the lazy guru’s guide to life’ – will talk you through ways of being that are less stressful and radically more creative and efficient: we’ve called it The Art Of Having No Idea. In this session he’ll share his experience of navigating uncertainty by accepting failure & confusion, giving examples from his own life and his work with teams, leaders and entrepreneurs. You will leave with both insights and practical tools for change.  You’ll also learn:

Effort vs effortlessness
An inquiry into how good things really happen

Space & Inspiration
A live experience of creative space

Shoulds & Can’ts
Understanding what gets in the way of creativity

Insights for Action
How we fill space & how to create more of it
