Enneagram Personality Test (TALK/MASTERCLASS)

With Akcelina Cvijetic
Introduction to Enneagram

Enneagram is an ancient wisdom teaching that is 2,500 years old and comes from Greek “Ennea-gram” which means “model of nine”. It is based on nine distinct personality types that go well beyond our ‘type’ to highlight the main drivers behind our individual expression and behaviour. It is an insightful way of understanding why we think, feel and act the way we do.

Have you ever wondered why people can’t see things from your perspective or do what you would do? Do you keep repeating the same behaviours or communication patterns and feel misunderstood? Does it seem like you are running on autopilot? Enneagram will teach you about the “programming” that is running you, and that is running others, so that you can be aware of its positive and negative aspects. Most importantly, this workshop will provide you with a far greater awareness of yourself and others in day-to-day life and will give you tools to do something positive with the knowledge you have gained.

Why do you need it?

Successful businesses thrive on their employees knowing how to work most effectively both by themselves as well as part of a team. Enneagram provides empowering insights on how to overcome each person’s barriers to transform challenges into greater achievements and fulfilment. By offering an in-depth awareness and understanding of the “nine ways of thinking and behaving” this workshop enables people within organisations to elevate themselves to far greater levels of success and advantage in a competitive world. The famous “Real Beauty” campaign by Dove was created as a result of the awareness of the Enneagram. Other companies that benefited from using its tools are Google, IBM, Virgin, BBC, Downton Abbey TV series and Hay House Publishing.

 Benefits:
  • Develop a greater understanding of yourself and others
  • Enjoy better personal and business relationships
  • Resolve conflicts and work most effectively with each of the nine types
  • Become the kind of leader you are meant to be
  • Identify and defuse any underlying barriers
  • Understand your unique motivation
  • Transform your challenges into growth and contribution
  • Achieve greater authentic success, joy and inspiration
How The Enneagram Personality Test Changed My Life – a user story

After we’d taken the test, we were explained about all 9 personality types. I was surprised by how each one was so distinctly different. As I read, I thought about the people in my life- family, friends, colleagues- who are likely a 4, a 6, or a 3 and how that impacts their perspective on the world.

As a result I gained empathy, patience, understanding and self-awareness. I had so many a-ha moments and so much understanding of events and conversations that had occurred in the past which had affected me.

Now these numbers and their descriptions have become a reference point for me both in and out of work. It’s become a map that helps me navigate the world and consider another person’s frame of reference. It helps me approach relationships and interactions with far more thought and consideration. It’s really been quite transformational.

Enneagrams help to frame how one single event can be construed very differently depending on who perceives it. Understanding the Enneagram can help you put yourself in someone else’s shoes and view the world from their perspective.

The 9 Enneagram Personality Types

There are lots of images which describe the 9 enneagram personality types, so here are a few by way of an initial explanation. The image below reveals each personality type, describing where their attention and energy is naturally drawn to.

This next image provides a more visual representation of each enneagram personality type.

What people say about Enneagram

“It changed my life.

“I’ve never thought much of personality tests. But the accuracy and detail of this one blew my mind.

“I was so shocked by it’s accuracy that I couldn’t just stop after reading about my type. I wanted to know about how my type interacted with every other type.

Fear Hack

With hilarygallo

What scares us, makes us.

Led by former lawyer and senior executive, now author and coach Hilary Gallo, the purpose of this punchy and energising session is to discuss and reframe the idea of fear — so that we can do more of what we want to do and less of what’s holding us back.

In this two-hour workshop, we explore what stops us doing what we should really be doing. We discuss where our fears come from and how they end up having such an effect on us.

Fear Hack is a session which enables us to talk about our fears in an open and unthreatening way. By talking about fear we begin to see that the problem isn’t always quite the big deal we thought it was. We learn what stops us, as well as what holds us, our bosses and our team members back. We also learn that we all have similar fears, which breaks down barriers and makes us feel more at ease with ourselves and each other.

What we’ll cover
  • An exploration of fear and its prevalence
  • Dealing with anxiety inducing situations
  • How to have a different relationship with fear
  • The things that are holding you back
  • How to reframe fear as opportunity
How the session will be structured

Hilary will guide you through conversation and exercises, focussed on the topic overall, but also tailored to the fears and stories that we (and the organisation as a whole) bring with us.

Who is the session for?

Any organisation that would like to understand and embrace the concept of fear more readily in an open, unintimidating and gentle way.

The session can be framed for leaders and managers with direct reports, or for specific teams. It can be shortened to 1.5hrs if required.

About Fear Hack – the book

For the past few years Hilary has been talking to people about what scares them and helping them to work through their fears. This book brings together what he has found. Maybe it is about time that we looked at fear differently and asked why it is still, in the 21st Century, such a problem for us.

Hacking here involves looking at fear from another angle. Instead of taking repeated blows at the log from one side, we turn it around and look at it more carefully. It is by doing this that we find a new way in.

What Hilary does is to offer us a breakthrough. Rather than being afraid of our fears, Hilary has an insight to share with us about the underlying framework we use. Instead of fighting our fears what Hilary shows us a way of befriending them. By bringing them close, we can learn surprising things from our fears. Hilary shows us how.

This is no dry academic exercise, for the sake of honesty Hilary has also throws his own fears into the pot so that we can see what happens. This he combines this with his insights into power gleaned from his work previously as a negotiator and his work more recently as an adviser and coach to leaders. Here, we start to see how power and fear work together and that what we see as a power problem is often really a fear problem and vice versa.

Whilst the workshops that Hilary runs deal with fears we can mostly see, the book looks at the deeper fears that shape us. The problem is that our fears and the stories we create from them are not us. They can however end up limiting and stopping us. For anyone who is curious why they can’t change, why they aren’t doing what they could be doing or why something still scares them, this book is the answer.

Fear is a curious thing and there is a reason why the shower scene in Psycho is so scary. Fear Hack shows us why.

In the last part of the book we get a powerful model that re-frames how we see our fears and an opportunity to turn our anxieties into excitement.

Fear Hack is a way of turning our experience from a monster story into a love story.

Here we get to make fear our friend and to come out altogether happier.

Forest Bathing/Shinrin-yoku for organisations

With Justine Clement

As modern life becomes ever more mechanised, and the social, economic and political systems we once considered to be robust are becoming increasingly fragile, we are all thirsting for something more to hold onto. We’re yearning for meaning, for ways to feel at home in the world. We long to see the world as we once saw it when we were children: a world that’s full of mystery, bursting with possibility; a world that will challenge us to become all that we could ever hope to be.”  Sharon Blackie, Author

Who is this for?

Getting a team out of their present environment (home or office – either way, out from behind a screen) and into the forest.  It’s suitable for any team, at any level, within an organisation.  The session can be adapted according to level, outlook and challenges. That said, this session can also be run as a 1-1 for someone looking for clarity, a mind shift and a reset.

Why?

Research, primarily conducted in Japan and South Korea, has proven the enormous health benefits of spending time amongst the trees. Every study so far has demonstrated that forest bathing positively creates calming neuro-psychological effects through changes in the nervous system, reducing the stress hormone cortisol and boosting the immune system – all invaluable to flourish and thrive in a tough working environment. Every study conducted so far has shown proven reductions in stress, anger, anxiety, depression and sleeplessness amongst participants. In fact after just 15 minutes of forest bathing blood pressure drops, stress levels are reduced and concentration and mental clarity improve.

How?

Forest Bathing can be used in a number of ways to enhance training and leadership skills. If you are organising an off-site board meeting or away day and there is access to a forest, we can come to that location and hold the session there. These can be used in so many ways, but a few examples include boosting customer and staff engagement in retail stores, as inspiration for the creative industries and by CEOs seeking a breathing space and by individual senior staff members as a powerful personal tool.

What?

Justine, your guide, will facilitate a safe gentle walk, providing instructions — referred to as “invitations” — which are used as ways to open up the senses. We spend so much time using our vision that the other senses often get forgotten and are under utilised. Each walk begins with establishing embodied contact with where you are. Next comes a series of connective invitations, often improvised in the moment and adapted to the needs of the team. These may be followed by wander time with a specific focus and/or sit spot. The walk ends with tea made from foraged local plants.

Shinrin-yoku walks are not hikes in the traditional sense.  An entire walk is typically four hours in duration and often covers no more than a quarter mile distance. In that relatively short distance and time most people experience contact with nature in a much deeper way than they ever have prior to the session. People have a wide range of experiences, some of which they feel are significant, even profound. As a guide, Justine is a CPD-certified Shinrin-yoku practitioner, awarded by the International Society of Nature and Forest Medicine (INFOM) trained in the skills and perspectives needed to be a supportive witness of these experiences.

Four hours is the ideal time you should allow for this experience and it’s ideally run for up to 8 people. It doesn’t matter if you are all from one team or spread amongst a few different departments. The session is based on you coming to Surrey, Kent or Sussex in the forests I work in there. But if you’re short on time, it’s also possible to run a shorter two-hour session. If you’d like us to travel to woods/forest near you, that’s also possible and London sessions are also available.

Duration and cost

2-4 hours

4 hours £1200 for up to 8 people or 2 hours £950

Dates

Shinrin-yoku, or Forest Bathing, is run on a bespoke basis, so please get in touch to discuss your needs and for more details.

Anything else to consider?

We also run this session to include breathwork, which is a very powerful combination. Please see https://thelifeadventure.co/workshop/shinrin-yoku-and-connected-breath-for-organisations/?r_to=8572 for more details.

Have you got what it takes?

With Kieran Low

Kieran Low was once a successful professional rugby player with the world at his feet, turning pro at 18, he became a Scottish international player at 22. Yet he was forced to retire aged 25, after sustaining multiple concussions and a brain injury, during his short, but eventful, career. One of the matches is described as follows.

As the fog finally lifted, Kieran became conscious of his teammates around him, the applause of the crowd and the lights illuminating the Murrayfield pitch were in brilliant contrast to the cold dark sky engulfing the stadium.  That moment – 23rd November 2013 – should have been one to savour, Low having made his international debut against Australia. But instead, it’s one where the cursed male ego has ensured it was one of abject confusion.

Did any the 56,000 fans in the stadium register that Low, just 22 at the time, was a blindside flanker who was vacant and playing on autopilot?

“It was my first cap and I was getting frustrated not getting my hands on the ball so took a really bad line towards a ruck the and ran straight into a big Australian fella, I remember thinking ‘it’s my first carry in international rugby, I can’t go off the pitch’. I then took a blow to my head, and I had no idea where I was, but I’ve seen the video and I just played on in autopilot. It was male pride and ego.”

His traumatic experiences both on and off the field led to him searching for ways to rediscover the person he’d lost and through this journey he discovered healing through a natural lifestyle philosophy and holistic approach to health with a strong focus on breathwork and nature therapy.  He has learned a huge amount about his life experiences through deep self-exploration and now shares his knowledge and experiences to help others.

Kieren has accepted that the ‘black dog’ of depression is always with him nowadays, but now he understands his predicament he is able to bear it. But it wasn’t always that way.  He ended up going through periods of depression and anxiety and just poor mental health in general, understanding the severity of his concussions, but completely unsure sure what to do about it.

And when he began to see a notable decline in his performance as a result of his physical and mental health. he started to drink a lot more and began taking painkillers.

Alongside the many challenges he faced, like many people, Kieran suffered from imposter syndrome the whole of his rugby career, always noticing a ‘lack’ as a result of coming from a working-class family in Sussex who never went to the ‘right’ schools.

Now, in an altogether better place thanks to nutrition, breathwork, nature immersion, exercise and surrounding himself with the right people, Kieran’s varied talks cover:

  • The journey he’s been on, placing great emphasis on sharing the way he’s learned to down regulate the body’s nervous system.
  • His understanding of how we can only control certain things and the importance of letting go of what we cannot.
  • How he came to the conclusions he has about life and why he believes many others can benefit from the practises he has learned over the years on his dramatic life journey.
  • General mindset themes including how to turn negatives into positives and how a brain injury was the best thing that ever happened to him.
  • How all this is underpinned by the power of your breath, living closely alongside and with the natural environment and his general life philosophy.

How to be Resilient

With Rowan Gray

Resilience is essential for people who want to create change. Research conducted a few years ago by Relume, the consultancy which Rowan works helps to run, involved interviewing business leaders, but specifically those who challenge the status quo. Through these conversations, and their own experience of working within high-profile organisations, they noticed a number of common behaviours in terms of what it takes to create a positive disturbance in a department, organisation or market sector.

One of the stand-out findings was that the ability to bounce back quickly from challenging situations was one of these behaviours. Some people even thrived in these testing circumstances.

What was also interesting is that people commonly mistake resilience for endurance. To endure is to continuously push the body and mind to the limit for prolonged periods of time without giving up. It’s the same with companies. Many wellbeing programs ask employees to be well enough to cope in organisations that are increasingly complex, uncertain and fast-paced.

But to be resilient is different. A degree of endurance is still required but it also means recovering quickly and using the experience to learn, adapt and do something different. It doesn’t mean putting up with more of the same.

Using a mixture of insight, real stories and practices, this workshop will help shift you from an endurance mindset to a resilience mindset.  To read more on resilience here.

Inspiration For Marketing

With Laurence Shorter
Inspiration – A Masterclass For Marketing Professionals

You work in brand and marketing because it’s about energy, creativity and communication – things that matter personally, that wake you up and make you feel engaged. You love it when you get a chance to bring new life to a brand or create a powerful idea to catalyse change. But all too often the inspiration goes missing in action, sidelined or forgotten in a rush to create something that is acceptable to the client, internally or externally. In this event Laurence – based on 20 years experience as a strategist, entrepreneur and author – will reconnect you with what really matters about marketing: the generation of inspiring energy that attracts and mobilises your community of customers and colleagues.

This workshop can be tailored either for individuals wishing to explore their career future or for teams working on a specific problem or looking to make inspiration a central principle of their work. It can be held in your offices or we can talk you on a Walkshop out into the Sussex countryside (thoroughly recommended) or in inspiring locations around London.

We will look at:
  • Managing a high-performing creative team
  • Getting to flow in discussions and decision-making
  • How to generate insights to unblock a problem
  • Where good ideas come from and how to generate them
  • Influence and power in marketing
  • How to be an ‘unthinker’
This workshop is for you if you are:
  • An innovator in a large organisation trying to drive adoption of new ideas or approaches
  • A marketeer looking to create employee engagement or to re-energise a brand
  • An agency creative / strategist team trying to come up with an ace idea to win a pitch for client business, or to execute on a client brief?
  • A lonely voice of reason crying in the wilderness for better thinking

Joy At Work (6 WK PROGRAMME)

With Lynn Hord
Our Joy@Work is a 6-week, online, group experience designed to boost productivity, performance and profits, by helping people tap into and increase their joy at work

Happy employees aren’t a nice thing to have, they’re the 21st-century competitive edge.

Why? Because happy employees, among other things like being great to be around and being awesome team players, are also:

  • 31% more productive
  • take 10X fewer sick days
  • make 37% more sales
  • and add 20% to your bottom line compared to your (unhappy) competitors

So, while many companies are still focusing on productivity measures, performance incentives, and other short-term solutions, those who truly get the power is in their people are investing where it counts – engagement.

Engaged employees feel more connected to their colleagues, are more invested in the company’s success and its goals, and are more willing to go the extra mile to make them happen.

They are more responsive to challenges, better problem-solvers, more resilient, and more able to manage stress (and avoid the all-too-prevalent burnout). Not to mention they’re more fun to be around and awesome team players.

With an average of 40+ hours a week at our ‘jobs’ and 40+ years in our working life, 21st-century workers are now wanting far more from their 9-to-5 than a paycheck. And if you employ Millennials – even more so.

If your company would benefit from:

  • More productive and efficient staff
  • Teams that are even more collaborative
  • Increased innovation and creativity
  • More positive and engaged employees
  • Better staff retention
  • New recruits choosing you over the competition
  • And an overall happier workplace

Then you’d hugely benefit from putting employees (or specific teams) through our innovative Joy@Work Programme. It’s a 6-week, online, group experience designed to boost productivity, performance and profits, by helping people tap into and increase their joy at work.

Positive emotion is a natural motivator, so when we incorporate activities that bring bursts of uplifting emotion or focus on long-term activities that bring satisfaction and fulfilment, we can’t help but become more effective and efficient – and produce better results.

IN THE THE JOY@WORK PROGRAMME YOU WILL DISCOVER:
  • The science behind happiness and why it fuels success
  • How to tap into motivation by finding meaning in your daily work (no matter what job you do)
  • The 5 foundations of wellbeing at work that are essential to sustainable performance
  • How to set yourself up for success by cultivating a positive (and joy-focused) mindset
  • Tools and techniques to boost resilience and reduce workplace stress
  • How to see change as an opportunity and approach it with more creativity – and less resistance

Worldwide, a whopping 87% of workers are disengaged (according to Gallup), which leads to people being unproductive, uninspired to do their best and just collecting a payslip. But what if, instead, they were able to tap into something that made an immediate difference to their positivity, their productivity and ultimately their performance? It just takes a simple, sustainable shift, and that’s something that Joy@Work creates.

ARE YOU UP FOR THE ADVENTURE?

Great. Here’s what you need to know.

Individuals are welcomed (set dates which we can give you) and teams are celebrated – engaging your whole team in this process creates an even more powerful culture change.
All of the learning modules are prerecorded videos and can be viewed at your convenience, so they are easy to fit in to your busy week.
The weekly group calls are all recorded, so if you can’t make it live, you can catch up when your schedule allows (we want the process, not just the learning to feel easy and fun!).
There will be an online forum where you can connect with the group, where you can go for inspiration, to ask questions, and share challenges or wins you’ve had between the live calls.
To make sure you get the support and attention you need to implement everything you will be learning, group size will be a maximum of 20 people.

Presenter Samantha Clarke

Over the past exciting and varied 13 years plus of experience, Samantha has worked as a brand and strategy consultant, trend and innovation researcher, emerging markets connector, style and personal brand educator and lecturer on personal and work development. After a bit of soul searching and streamlining, she realised that three main things get her out of bed are (1) teasing solutions out of matted problems (2) being a catalyst for great ideas and (3) supporting and inspiring individuals to make changes and be their best. Basically all things to do with providing happiness, ideas and change. As a result she has developed a portfolio career between lecturer & changemaker, happiness consultant and style educator, so needless to say, we’re delighted to have Samantha as part of our team. As part of our business programmes Samantha will be helping you untangle sticky issues such as defining values and visions, crafting a 'happy' employee journey, cross-cultural and communication dilemmas, relationship building, company culture design and conflict resolution to promote greater change and growth. Together we believe that building great businesses starts from the top and then a willingness to co-create with employees and we take great joy in helping founders and their teams to design a more conscious, happier approach to working together.

Presenter Dr Shomit Mitter

Shomit comes from an intellectual perspective, with a M.Phil from Oxford University and a Ph.D from Cambridge University. He trained as a hypnotherapist under Dr. Keith Hearne and Dr. Roger Woolger, and has spent 30 years studying ancient Indian, Chinese, Egyptian and Shamanic systems of healing. Much of his work over the years has involved an amalgamation of these systems with cutting edge modern western hypnotherapy. The results are both powerful and easy to use. If you get the chance to enroll in some of his mind-blowing workshops, take it. The meditations are some of the most powerful we’ve ever experienced and the stories of his mother’s friendship with Mother Teresa remind you that you’re in the presence of a unique individual who’s giving you a unique insight into the world. If you ever need reminding that the world is a stage and we are merely actors taking up our roles, then best let Shomitt lead you through it, with intelligence, awe and finesse.

Hilary Gallo is a specialist in change. He coaches executives through key transitions and leaders to decide questions of strategy. His background as an exec at Accenture and Capgemini gave him the lead as a corporate fixer and negotiator, yet he started his career as a trained lawyer. Hilary is also the author of the book “The Power of Soft”. Having spent decades negotiating deals worth hundreds of millions of pounds, he realised that bullying behaviour rarely got him or his clients the outcomes they were looking for. Over the years he began to develop a new way of approaching negotiations in a gentler manner and soon found his work and home life getting richer. What started as a negotiation tactic soon became a philosophy for life. His new book is called “Fear Hack” and builds upon the workshop we run of the same name.
