Have you ever tried tapping, or even heard of it? To tie in with our Tap into Emotional Freedom workshop with Austin Wyse we wanted to give you the inside scoop on why you should spend your precious time on this fascinating technique.
Tapping is also known as EFT, Emotional Freedom Techniques or MTT, Meridian Tapping Techniques and it was recently featured on a BBC documentary called ‘Inside Harley Street.’
The NHS are also looking into the benefits of EFT and are planning on using it to help patients address stress and anxiety. Even celebrities such as Lily Allen are speaking out about it. But what exactly is it?
Well, tapping is based on the concepts that lie behind acupuncture, which affects the energy that moves throughout our bodies in pathways called meridians. There are many meridians and each channel carries its own unique energy around the body. At various points on the meridian lines there are pools of energy. These can be stimulated to release blockages. It’s important for the energy in our bodies to be in harmony, but blockages can start to occur when we are experiencing emotional stress. Tapping works by creating tiny electrical impulses along the individual’s natural healing systems, allowing blockages to be released and a smooth energy flow to be restored.
EFT was created by Gary Craig, in the early 90’s. Gary, a Stanford graduate engineer started very early on in his life to research self-improvement methods and spent many years presenting personal performance seminars and coaching individuals. While searching for better methods and techniques for personal development, he trained in Dr. Roger Callahan’s Thought Field Therapy or TFT. TFT was to become the father of Gary’s EFT and also of numerous other methods in the field that is often referred to today as ‘energy psychology’. This video is a wonderful introduction to his work.
As Gary mentions in the video, you can try tapping on everything, but to get really powerful and meaningful results, it can be enormously helpful to understand how the subconscious works. This is because we function from the subconscious 95-97% of the time. When we tap on blocked emotions that are so often stored at a level below our conscious awareness the results can be spell-binding!
