Forest Green Rovers, a 2nd division football club in Gloucestershire, is heralded as ‘the greenest football club in the world’.
With an organic, rainwater-fed football pitch, eco-friendly stadium with solar panels, LED floodlights and a menu only serving vegan food, the club is making a stance in a sport where profit is usually king, not sustainability.
In making this stance on doing things differently, the club’s ethos is held firmly in the belief they don’t need to conform to the status quo in order to make the business of football work. The stakes are high, but so are the rewards.
Sustainability is central to everything the club does. From solar panels and electric vehicle charging points, to their vegan match day menu, they continually strive to be the greenest football club in the world and are famous for becoming the world’s first vegan football club.
