Dr Carole Pemberton believes everyone deserves to have a working life that is satisfying, allows for success and does not drain them of their physical, emotional and mental energies. These are not ‘soft’ aspirational words they are conditions which are key to both the engagement of staff, and their ability to perform in high demand environments.
Carole has spent her working life, researching, writing, consulting and working with individuals and organisations on the challenges of living out careers in organisations. That involvement with individuals at every age and career stage from graduate entrant to CEO has given her recognised expertise in career management, executive coaching and resilience.
Her interest in resilience grew from working with leaders who had lost access to their own resilience because of the relentlessness of demands, or because of career setback. Clients have taught her that there is no sustained career success without resilience, and her research has shown her that:
Her approach, starts from recognising the resilience strengths which we all bring to our lives and then considering how those strengths can be applied or undermined by the context in which the person is working. She looks to then fill gaps in resilience capability, so that the individual is able to operate with the flexibility and agility that is required in organisations who are working in contexts of complexity and uncertainty compounded by the need for speed.
Alongside her work as a coach, she is also Visiting Professor in Business Coaching at the University of Ulster. This means that she brings a strong evidence base to her work, and her skill is in translating what academic research discovers into its practical meaning in the workplace. She is the author of a number of books including Coaching to Solutions: A Guide to Performance Coaching for line managers and most recently Resilience.
We have a wide range of offerings in areas related to resilience with Carole, all of which are bespoke for your organisation and your needs.
Resilience for a VUCA World can be delivered as a talk, specially designed workshop, as part of a more extensive resilience training programme or as an element of a leadership development programme. It can additionally be offered to whole teams so that resilience at a team level can be explored.
Each of us has a resilience template. That template is part genetics, part childhood experience but largely learnt through dealing with the ups and downs of life. This session focuses on:
The session combines the evidence from research with high performers with activities which lead to defining actions for building resilience muscle.
