Introduction

This retreat is a haven for people looking for an escape from the continual pressure of daily life. At some point in all of our lives there comes a need to step into a different space.  You’ll return feeling rested, healthy, genuinely reinvigorated and ready to take on life with renewed energy and strength. To experience something so special, that it changes your world, is unique. This retreat will provide a series of rare moments that can subtly redirect your life and teach you something which you can easily incorporate well beyond the length of your stay.

The retreat is designed to be rigorous and profound in terms of effect – and yet to be experienced within a personal and serene environment. Only a small number of guests attend each retreat which ensures you receive full attention and guidance at all times.

About Tibetan Healing Yoga

Tibetan Healing Yoga (otherwise known as LuJong) is thought to be 8000 years old. It was developed by Tibetan monks and practiced for millennia, handed down from master to pupil.  Recently brought to the West by renowned master, Tulku Lobsang, this exotic and deeply effective ancient practice is still rare. Lu Jong reinforces physical strength and flexibility, boosts your immune system and sharpens your senses. It balances the elements and humours, the foundation of the physical body, and invigorates the body/s more subtle vital wind (or energy), allowing the Lung/Qi to flow freely and harmoniously, breaking down the blockages which create susceptibility to illness. We are improved on a physical, mental and energetic level.

The result is a beautiful, efficient and systematic practice that improves our well being in all dimensions and using breath and awareness develops a quiet mind, a true meditation in movement, more relevant than ever in today’s busy and stressful lifestyle.

Lu Jong is thoroughly beneficial for your health and happiness, brings inner calm and makes you glow from the inside out. Daily practice can really change your life and the results are nothing short of profound. This ancient and life changing yoga is a discerning and transformational choice.

Lu Jong can be practiced by people of all ages, abilities and flexibility and the benefits are felt immediately.

About the retreat – your host and your teacher

This is the opportunity for you to take some time for yourself, to withdraw from the outside world and truly experiment with your own energy. You’ll leave with an effective personal daily practice of warm-up, 21 movements of Tibetan yoga and meditation that you can take with you wherever you are.

Your host, Bibi Morelli Schofield spent 15 years working as a banking lawyer and in business in London, Madrid and Milan. After marrying her Zimbabwean husband, Kenneth, she spent a decade living and working in and around Zimbabwe and Mozambique, in largely undeveloped areas, rich in nature and tranquillity. Kenneth’s knowledge and subtle appreciation of the indigenous environment revealed to her an undiscovered world of nature and wildlife, which triggered the beginning of a fundamental shift in her values.

A few years later, after meeting Dominique Caubel and experiencing the Lu Jong practice and his profound bodywork, her priorities began to evolve and crystallised into a new direction – to bring the benefits of Lu Jong to a wider audience. This shaped the mission of the retreat which takes place at Bibi and Kenneth’s private homes in Harare and on the banks of the Zambezi.

Your teacher, Dominique Caubel is one of the leading practitioners of Tibetan Healing yoga in Europe. Born in the Commores, on a small island off the African coast, Dominique is of Franco-Indian descent. His interests began with martial arts and he holds a black belt in Kung Fu and T’ai Chi. Inspired by his work with energy but seeking a non-combatative expression of this power, he began to study Tibetan Yoga, most recently Lu Jong (Tibetan Healing Yoga) with and in the tradition of renowned Master Tulku Lobsang.

His professional accomplishments in the field of martial arts and yoga were also complemented over the last 20 years with a bodywork practice combining Chinese, Tibetan and Ayurvedic techniques together with Reiki and Karuna energy work. He works mostly from his centre in the South of France.

Location

This retreat benefits from two beautiful and diverse locations. First, located on the banks of the majestic Zambezi river, close to the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. Teeming with wildlife the area is well known for numerous elephant, hippo and rich birdlife and the river is quiet and contemplative. With a focus on simplicity and nature, you are encouraged to absorb the healing properties and peace of this environment – a million miles away from the urban sophistication and pressured lives most people have come away from.

After 4 nights, you’ll be transported to a luxurious private residence (pictured below), located on 12 acres of Msasa Forest in Umwinsidale, Harare. Here you’ll experience a little of the timeless wonder and elegance of Zimbabwe – her people, her flora, her fauna, her soul.

What you can expect

Lu Jong is a wonderful practice and suitable for all levels of fitness and ages. As a yoga practice it is quite rare so usually everyone will be a beginner. Movements do not require particular levels of flexibility or strength as each person can work within their own limit.

Yoga/meditation will take place early in the morning usually around 5.30/6am depending on sunrise. This gives you the full benefit of the early morning energy, ideally suited to these activities. Workshops take place after breakfast and activities (such as deep tissue massage and trips out on the Zambezi) through the afternoon. Early dinner schedule allow for guests to be in bed by 9.30pm to allow for early starts without feeling tired. An optional evening starlight meditation i is also offered after dinner.  Alcohol is not available during the day. In the evening an aperitif is served (usually as part of a game viewing sundowner) and wine with dinner. Guests are encouraged to limit their consumption to a glass of wine so as not to detract from the effects of their practice. Single estate Kilimanjaro Arabica coffee is served at breakfast and after lunch, in a Cafetière along with a wide range of teas.

The deep tissue massage is a unique combination of Chinese, Tibetan, Ayurvedic and Raynor Naturopathic techniques which identify and remove energy blockages, helping restore balance to the body, mind and spirit (see Treatments for details). Tibetan Healing Yoga will take place every day at sunrise, followed by morning meditation and meditation by candlelight after dinner in the cool of the night.

Each day guests are asked to observe 4 hours of silence at specific times to allow for a deeper relaxation. This private time can be used for reading (bring your own or we will have some inspirational reading materials available), sleeping, private yoga practice, lying by the pool or any creative pursuits – quiet ones! : ) Guests are welcome to bring paints/canvasses/sketching books/writing pads/photography equipment.

Dining and excursions will be social times and on the river guests will have the opportunity to enjoy the extremely rich birdlife unique to the Zambezi valley as well as of course elephant, hippo and possibly other wildlife.

Being a completely wild environment, there are no guarantees as to what you might see and hear, although the Valley is full of almost all species of African wildlife. You are immersed in nature and it is a fully spontaneous and magical environment with no enclosures, however as a result guests are not permitted to leave the property unescorted or by foot and should be aware and observant at all times.

A completely unique experience with profound benefits to your health – physical, mental and spiritual.
