Spring Foraging And Wild Medicine Workshop 17th April 2021 East Sussex

With Alice Rose Betony

Join us for this Spring Foraging And Wild Medicine Workshop where we’ll be gathering and processing of plants for food and medicine. This 5 hour outdoor session, run by our expert forager and herbalist Alice Bettany, will be the best day out you’ve ever had! It is designed to introduce you to a wide variety of plants that have been used by our ancestors for healing, nourishment and enjoyment. We’ll explore the cycle of spring looking at the abundance of leaves available to us at this time of year and make the most of time together focusing on gaining an understanding of the qualities of each season whilst using all our senses to help experience the properties of the plants we are working with and will involve making a variety of foods and medicines together around the campfire in the afternoon.

This foraging and wild medicine workshop is open to anyone who’d like to learn more about wild nutrition and herbalism and in the process you will gain confidence and understanding on how to identify plants in their different habitat. You’ll also learn how to gather respectfully and sustainably and to participate directly in the different processing methods of the plants in their seasons to turn them into food and medicine. It’s a truly beautiful, memorable and grounding experience which we can personally highly recommend.

Here’s what we got up to on our last Spring Foraging And Wild Medicine Day.

Here’s how we work on the day, gathering plants and berries for our campfire feast.

A selection of herbal teas and hot water will be provided and of course we will make some fresh herb brews along the way. We’ll also get to try all our produce around the campfire, which is a highlight, in our opinion, of this experience.

Please arrive 15 minutes early to allow time to meet and greet. Please bring suitable footwear for walking on farmland, warm clothes (even if it is sunny). Please bring a notepad and pen, maybe a camera to help you remember the plants, and a basket for foraged goods.

No previous experience is necessary for this workshop, but as well as having an incredibly enjoyable few hours away from the worries of the world. What you will experience is:

  • The opportunity to learn ways to tune in to your senses
  • A chance to get to know plants using all of your senses
  • Meet and identify lots of wild, abundant, local plants that you can eat

The location is right near the National Trust’s Sheffield Park, Uckfield, East Sussex.

We begin at 10am and finish at 3pm.

I wanted to thank you for organising a truly special day. I have been thinking about it all day and in my dog walks have been trying to identify edible greens 😉 What a great character your herbalist Alice is! Thanks again. It was wonderful and it made a difference! Gracia, North London, Oct 2020
